13 Goals 2012 13 New Year Goals

I don’t do New Year resolutions any more, but I do like to plan ahead and set a few manageable goals for the year ahead.  My overall theme for the year is going to be ORGANIZE.

This is a goal I’ve had for decades and it is a bit of an overwhelming task.  Ten years ago we moved from a big house with a huge basement, attic, and big gargage with attached building into a house with no basement, no attic, no storage shed, and only a small gargage.  We had to leave a lot of stuff behind because we simply ran out of space and I have never really recovered from having boxes and stuff jammed every where from floor to ceiling by the movers.  I’ve made a huge dent over the years, but much more needs to be done.  I work full time and my health was poor and my pain levels were extremely high back then and I weighed over 300 lbs.  However, since I lost over 170 lbs and reached my goal weight of 135 lbs in Jan. 2010 I have been able to get a lot more done and I plan to continue making progress in the year ahead.  I am not going try for perfection, or set goals that are just to big to actually achieve or set deadlines for myself that are going to cause stress.

Here are a few things I’d like to accomplish next year:

  1. Strength and Rebirth Circle of Trees Spring Retreat (present two workshops (April)
  2. Woman I Am Circle of Trees Fall Retreat (present two workshops) (Oct.)
  3. Finish Qi Gong Therapist class take home exam
  4. 2nd level Qi Gong Healing class (Oct. – 1 week in CT)
  5. Family summer vacation (to celebrate my daughter, Angelgirl’s 16th birthday in May)
  6. Visit with my best friend Mama Kelly at least twice (or more next year) – but since that is based on her schedule, I’ll settle for at least getting to visit once
  7. Record a review of at least 12 tarot decks and post the videos
  8. Finishing getting wedding video copied to computer and uploaded to youtube and then posted on blog
  9. Copy China video to dvd, uploaded to you tube and then posted
  10. Paint and organize my daughter’s room (she wants to change from pink to green with brown trim; one of her Christmas presents was a new bedding set and new sheets in green and brown)
  11. Organize and inventory crystals and semi-precious stones and create a few craft projects to sell
  12. Sort and organize the 6 tall bookshelves in fireplace room and organize the bedroom (clear excess junk, sort all clothes, get a bookshelf, baskets, and storage containers to organize stuff in)

What are your goals for 2012?

Bright blessings, Lady Rose

December Celebrations 13 Holidays To Celebrate in DecemberNot in the Xmas spirit, don’t want to deal with the crowds at the malls, then this post is for you.  There are plenty of options for having fun and celebrating during December, so pick a few from the list below and start a new tradition.

  1. 12th National Ding-a-Ling Day – a day for bizarre and crazy behavior, from all of the people you encounter today, even normally conservative people have been known to go a little crazy on this day, so cut loose, get a little weird and let your inner whackiness out.
  2. 17th-23rd Saturnalia – An ancient week long celebration, the most popular holiday of the Roman year, restrictions were relaxed and the social order inverted
  3. 15th Bill of Rights Day – A good day to celebrate American Citizenship, and reflecting and being thankful for the freedoms we enjoy (that are not enjoyed by many others in other countries), and also reflect on what we can do to protect those freedoms today and in the future.
  4. 21st Humbug Day – According to wellcat.com, the creators of this day, Humbug Day  “Allows everyone preparing for Christmas to vent their frustrations.”
  5. 21st Look on the Bright Side Day – We hope you see the light! (It is also winter solstice, the shortest day of the year.)
  6. 23rd Festivus  for the rest of us – Created by Seinfeld show scriptwriter Daniel O’Keefe. His dad had found reference to an obscure holiday called Festivus, which was first celebrated in 1966,
  7. 23rd Human Light Celebration – A secular winter holiday, “an alternative reason to celebrate: a Humanist’s vision of a good future. It is a future in which all people can identify with each other, behave with the highest moral standards, and work together toward a happy, just and peaceful world.”  The first HumanLight celebration took place in 2001 in New Jersey, created by the New Jersey Humanist Network.
  8. 24th National Chocolate Day – Most likely created by the candy industry or a confectioner, but any excuse to indulge in more chocolate deserves to be celebrated.
  9. 24th National Egg Nog Day – A delicious seasonal drink enjoyed by many at Thanksgiving, and again around the Christmas holidays through until New Year’s, (after Jan. 1 it is no longer available in stores).
  10. 24th Leave out goodies for Krampus (he travels with Santa) – who is Krampus;  the Krampus song (video).  Official Krampus Day is Dec. 5th.
  11. 26th Boxing Day – Origins of this holiday goes back to the Middle Ages, members of the merchant class would take boxes, fill them with food and fruits, and give them to servants, tradespeople and the less fortunate (since servants worked on Christmas Day th 25th, their day off was the 26th).
  12. 26th National Whiners Day – Celebrated to encourage people to be grateful for what they already have.
  13. 28th Card Playing Day – A good excuse to have fun and play games with the family, have a few laughs and build some memories

For even more ideas see Holiday Insights: December.

Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season no matter what holidays you choose to celebrate.

Bright Blessings, Lady Rose

Thurs13 Yule 13 Gods Associated With December 25

Wishing every one a happy, healthy, joyous holiday season (regardless of one’s religion or non-religious choices).  This Thursday 13 I thought it would interesting to explore the origins of the holiday.

Here is a list of some of the of Pagan gods that had “birthdays”  or are associated with December 25th:

  1. Apollo
  2. Attis
  3. Bacchus
  4. Dionysus the son of Zeus
  5. Helios
  6. Hercules
  7. Horus
  8. Jupiter
  9. Mithras
  10. Nimrod (who eventually came to be worshipped as Baal) – According to ancient Babylonian tradition, Semiramis (later known as the goddess Astarte/Asherah/Ashtoreth/Isis/Ishtar/Easter in other pagan religions) claimed that after the untimely death of her son/husband Nimrod, a full grown evergreen tree sprang up overnight from a dead tree stump. Semiramis claimed that Nimrod would visit that evergreen tree and leave gifts each year on the anniversary of his birth, which just happened to be on December 25th.  This is the true origin of the Christmas tree.
  11. Perseus
  12. Sol Invictus (The “Unconquered Sun”)
  13. Tammuz

“By the time the Roman Empire legalized Christianity in the 4th century, most of the other religions in the empire were celebrating the birth of their gods on December 25th.  Leading up to December 25th in ancient Rome, a festival known as Saturnalia was one of the biggest celebrations of the year.  Saturnalia was a festival during which the Romans commemorated the dedication of the temple of their god Saturn. This holiday began on the 17th of December and it would last for an entire week until the 23rd of December.  Saturnalia was typically characterized by gift-giving, feasting, singing and lots and lots of debauchery.  The priests of Saturn would carry wreaths of evergreen boughs in procession throughout the pagan Roman temples. Later on, the Romans also started holding a festival on December 25th called Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, which means ‘the birthday of the unconquered sun.’  Basically it was a way for the empire to consolidate all of the December 25th ‘sun god’ birthdays throughout the empire into one holiday.”

List is from Mysteries of the World article: The Mystery Of The Pagan Origin Of Christmas: Jesus Was Not Born On December 25th But A Whole Bunch Of Pagan Gods Were.

Wishing everyone blessings and good cheer this holiday season, Lady Rose

FYI:  I respect ALL religions and positive spiritual paths, and I respest all who decide to not follow any religion or spiritual path.  That being said I also enjoy learning about history and the origins of religions and traditions.  The above list is for information and enjoyment purposes only – it is not an attack on Christmas or any other holiday.

 colorfuleaves 13 Highlights November Roundup

13 Highlights of November.  Last month I celebrated my one month blogaversary and reviewed the best of October.  Now the beginning of another month rolls around and I thought it is a good time to review the best of the previous month and a sneak preview for plans for the upcoming month.

  1. Accomplishments – Survived spammer and bot attacks that almost shut down the blog. The blog survived thanks to the tireless genius of a friend (Saphrym) who worked behind the scenes helping me. Also thanks go out for a suggestion from a friend on Facebook – I installed 2 very useful wordpress plugins – Bad Behavior and WP-Ban.  What a difference – the spam comments have dropped from 40 to 50 a day to 3 or 4.  Bad Behavior blocked 15 attacks in the first 20 minutes and still going strong.
  2. Tweaked the sidebar a bit for better performance (still a work in progress, but striving to make the page easy to load and an enjoyable place to visit).  Discovered Pingdom – test website performance, gives lots of useful information. (I don’t understand it all, but I was able to use some of the information to make positive changes.)
  3. The debut of Cauldron Chat (come sit and chat a spell) – a monthly discussion topic, we can share experiences, information, questions about various topics (and exchange links).  December’s chat topic is Crystals.
  4. November was a very exciting month – I attended the Be Thankful Circle of Trees Retreat and got to share my experience Firewalking
  5. Shared my experience Arrow Breaking (at the Circle of Trees Retreat)
  6. Shared my experience Table Tipping  (at the Circle of Trees Retreat)
  7. A favorite post – House Blessing with Crystals.
  8. Posted my first book review here at Blissful Moon – Chopin and Beyond (my review)  (a very interesting book, autobiography of Byron Janis, a famous pianist and includes his encounters with the paranormal throughout his life) To read more about it, Chopin and Beyond: My Extraordinary Life in Music and the Paranormal 13 Highlights November Roundup (Amazon link)
  9. Looking ahead for month of December and beyond – tomorrow I am going to pick out a healing drum and I will be sure to post photos over the weekend.  I’m looking forward to learning more about drumming and hope to find a drumming circle near me that I can attend regularly.
  10. I am giving two workshops at the Spring Strength and Rebirth Circle of Trees Retreat (April 27-29, 2012) and will be posting more about them and associated tidbits as plans progress (you can read a brief description on their website).  This is a wonderful retreat, if you can attend I highly recommend it – there will be lots of workshops, maypole dancing, drumming and a butterfly release too.
  11. I am expanding my crystal collection and looking forward to sharing photos and information about the various stones (I also have a few big projects in the works but these will take several months to unfold, so keeping them unwraps for now).
  12. There are a few things on my to do list that I didn’t get to, so they will get carried over – one is to figure out how to get my Blissful Moon “favicon” to show up.  In my favorites list for Blissful Moon it just shows the generic “e” favicon – but maybe it shows up for others  *shrugs*  – but I’m clueless how to fix the situation, so this may stay on my to do list for awhile.
  13. Tarot review videos – November was really busy and I didn’t get a chance to make a tarot video.  With the Yule holiday coming up, December will most likely be very busy too so I will mostly likely have to postpone starting the video project until next month.

How was your November – blogging and otherwise?

Bright blessings, Lady Rose
