To Counter The Current Wave of Republican Laws to Control Women’s Body, Health and Reproduction Rights – I propose:

THE DADDY DNA DATABASE PROJECT
Please help this go viral and get the word out to your friends, acquaintances, and state congresswomen and senators (feel free to send it via email or post on facebook -just please include a link to this post).

The Daddy DNA Database Project - a bill that requires all males over the age of 12 to have their DNA in a database – after all they are half the genetic material needed to create a baby and since the men do not want women to have birth control, and everyone is suppose to be 100% responsible for their own actions and offspring (no government support or handouts at all according to Republicans) it only makes sense that every single male should be in a database so they can be tracked down and their wages garnished to support their offspring. If they can’t – then it’s off to a workhouse of some sort to work for below minimum wage (the rest of their compensation is in the form of room and board) and what little salary they get will go to any children they fathered. The wealthy will love this idea – it provides cheap labor (they can also be used in work groups (with chains of course so they don’t escape) to work in the fields – thus doing the work that no one else wants to do (and eliminating the jobs that are now filled by illegal immigrants). Inmates (with tracking anklets of course) who have good behavior could even become house help for the uber rich.

UPDATE: Of course men should be given a choice (after all even though the Republicans don’t want women to have a choice, we don’t have to stoop to their level). Males can either have their DNA put in a database so they can be held responsible for all children they father, or they can opt to have a vasectomy.

The Romney Republicans will love it since the rich benefit! And the Santorum and far right Republicans will love it too since it protects every single egg and sperm but adults of all ages rot in custody with no rights and with no support or safety net.

Sounds like something the Republicans should really go for right ??? **said with a touch of snark** After all personal liberty is meaningless when compared to the rights of a sperm and an egg which are much more important – so what’s a little DNA in a database if it means that every single sperm will now be protected and have a “loving” father ?

Since the far right and (some) Republicans will not listen to facts or reason, the only way to make our point is to fight their absurd ideas with our own absurd ideas and keep the pressure on until to these lawmakers come to their senses and stop trying to pull this country back into the dark ages and use “religion” to control women.

Note: I don’t usually like to address political issues on this blog since that is not the focus of it, but the current wave of nonsense laws that Republicans in so many states are trying to pass (and some have passed!) is so absurd and so very dangerous for women’s health that I felt I needed to speak up.

I feel very strongly about protecting women’s rights and health benefits. I have a childhood history of male abuse (father was a child molestor and my step father a rapist) – as a result I ended up with cervical cancer when I was 19 and had to have a hysterectomy by the time I was 20. Plan Parenthood saved my life – it was the only health care option I had at the time for regular Pap smears so they were able to detect a problem early enough to save my life. In order to get the treatment and surgery I needed, I had to go to my abuser father and live in his house for awhile so he could cover me under his employer’s health care and continue to be enrolled in college – but at least I was able to get the necessary surgery that I needed and go on to live a happy life; I am happily married for over 20 yrs and we have lovely teenage daughter (we became an adopted family in 1996).

FYI: To those who seem to think I’m serious about this, let me clarify – I am SERIOUS about protecting women’s rights, health care options and access to affordable, safe birth control of all kinds. I am NOT for invading any one’s privacy, telling them what to do with their bodies or in their bedrooms. This proposal is simply to counter the extreme Republicans on the right who want to make sure women have no options, by using their own “logic” and applying it instead to men (rather then women). The hope is that by seeing how absurd the idea is to control others when it is applied to men, that enough Republicans will stop aligning themselves with the far right christian-in-name-only folks who want to enforce religious laws on others (which by the way is very much like what the Taliban does with Sharia Law or the way the Communist China does by regulating how many offspring their people can have).

Friday the 13th is one of my favorite days. In 2012 there will be three Friday the 13ths (January, April and July) – which is the most that can happen in one year. I know a lot of folks consider Friday the 13th to be bad luck but I don’t subscribe to that notion. Instead, I chose to celebrate Friday the 13th as a day to have fun and invoke the number 13 as a good luck number. I personally love the number 13 and there are many reasons to not fear it. There are often thirteen full moons in a year (I love the full moon!). A baker’s dozen is 13, which means a free treat. America began with 13 colonies, and we turned out ok. Friday the 13th happens on a Friday, my most favorite day of the week.

Looking at the numerological symbology of the numbers 1 and 3, thirteen is a positive number:

One is the number of self, being an individual, doing your own thing, confidence. It is also the number of spirituality and unity.

Three is a number of creativity, passion, spontaneity. It is also the number of completeness, balance, body-mind-soul, and the three aspects of the Goddess.

Four (Combination of 1 and 3) is the number for planning, building, foundation, and stability. It is also the number strength, wisdom, and the four seasons and the four elements (air-fire-water-earth).

So rather then succumb to paraskavedekatriaphobia (fear of Friday the 13th), I urge every one to celebrate and focus on making your own good fortune today and every day. Superstitions are based on fear of the unknown or fear of not knowing what’s coming, but that fear can be turned around with knowledge and a positive attitude and fun. (The fear of Friday is skeviphobia, the fear of the number 13 is triskaidekaphobia, and the fear of Friday the 13th is paraskevidekatriaphobia – also know as friggatriskaidekaphobia, Frigga being the name of the Norse goddess for whom “Friday” is named.)

One way to celebrate Friday the 13th is by making up a big batch of this 13 bean good luck soup:

2 cups mixed dried beans (13 different kinds, including black-eyed peas – which are associated with good luck)

Water with 2 tablespoons salt (to soak beans)

2 qts Water or Chicken or Vegetable Broth

2 large onions, sliced

2 cups chopped celery

1 can (28 ounces) tomatoes, chopped

1 red bell pepper, chopped

salt and pepper to taste, add other herbs and seaonsings that you like

Optional: 1-1/2 cups bite-size pieces lean baked ham (about 1/2 pound) or 1-pound meaty ham bone or ham hock (leave out if vegetarian)

Wash the beans, cover water and add 2 tablespoons salt, and then soak overnight. Drain the beans and combine with 2 quarts fresh water (or chicken or veggie broth) in a large pot. Add the ham and boil for 1-1/2 to 3 hours, or until the beans are tender and cooked thoroughly. Toss in the onions, celery, tomatoes, red pepper, and salt and pepper (and other seasonings) to taste. Simmer for another 30 minutes, or until the vegetables are cooked.

Set the table with 13 bowls, a plate of 39 fresh baked dinner rolls (3×13), invite 12 friends over and enjoy! (Optional: add a 13 ingredient salad as a side dish.)

Wishing everyone good luck and blessings today and always, Lady Rose

Qi Gong for Healing (previous post) – Qi Gong is a form of energy work and healing techniques that are over 8000 years old. It is both simple and deeply profound, connecting the body-mind-spirit through breath, movement, and meditations. In class we learn self-help practices for our own well-being, balance, and inner peace and how to gather, build, store, circulate, and transmit qi healing energy to help others. The techniques can be done any where, any time, and do not require any special tools.

Brief Definition of Qi Gong (from Wikipdia): a practice of aligning breath, movement, and awareness for exercise, healing, and meditation. With roots in Chinese medicine, qigong is traditionally viewed as a practice to balance qi (chi) or what has been translated as “intrinsic life energy.”

To compare for size I had a candy cane handy. Here is a photo of the very large quartz crystal and amethyst geode with the candy cane propped up against them. Each one weighs at least 70 lbs. I was unable to lift them out of my trunk and had to wait until my brother had some time to come over and bring them in.

They are placed in front of our fireplace, the quartz crystal cluster to the left and the amethyst geode to the right. Here is a larger photo of each:

Metaphysical and healing properties associated with quartz crystal cluster: a cluster of crystals brings a “group” energy to it’s surrounding area; used to foster protection, cooperation, purification, harmony, friendship, intimacy and to break up negative energy in the environment. A large cluster is wonderful for “re-charging” other crystals with energy; utilized in “cleansing” other crystals of negative energy (lay a crystal on top of a cluster for 24-48 hours in order to cleanse and recharge it). Clusters help to keep all life forms energized and clear of heavy or unproductive energy. Clear Quartz Crystal is the most powerful crystal for healing and energy amplification; working at a vibrational level it attunes to the specific energy requirements of the person needing healing or undertaking spiritual work. It absorbs, stores, releases, and regulates energy and has the widest range of metaphysical applications. Quartz crystal raises (spiritual) energy to the highest possible level; stores information like a natural computer and are a spiritual library waiting to be accessed. Holding a quartz crystal in your hand doubles your biomagnetic field.

Metaphysical and healing properties associated with amethyst geodes: Powerful healing (cleansing, calming and transforming); heals all levels of the mind, body and spirit; relieves anxiety, worry, and restlessness and increases mental strength, stability and inner energy (balances and creates emotional centeredness); also used for healing addictions, headaches, arthritis, circulatory system and endocrine systems. Protects the mind from mental attacks and helps to transform negative thinking into positive.; eases stress, grief, depression, emotional despair and inefficient communication. Amethyst has a soothing quality and is associated with peace and tranquility. Its soothing and protective essence works in favor of improving our intellect, strengthening our attention, and cleansing our mind; relieves the strain in our mind, especially when dealing with increased stress and/or when our mental activity is accelerated. It is also used for communicating with angels, solving legal and financial problems, and enhances higher states of consciousness and meditation; helps you remember your dreams.

There has been a definite positive energy increase in the room and throughout the whole house after these stones were placed in front of the fireplace. I am looking forward to completing the house blessing ceremony I wrote when I get the other stones I need and specifically charging the crystals and linking them to the smaller stones that will be placed beneath the home, in a circle around the house, and in each room. I am also planning on some time in the future being able to hold regular healing circles and these the Quartz Crystal Cluster and Amethyst Geode will be a wonderful addition to the healing energy.
