Manifest the Life You Desire

After an awesome morning on Friday selecting (or being chosen by) a healing drum, I spent the rest of the day with my friend Joan Bright and then in the evening we went to the Banana Factory in Bethlehem PA for an art gallery event, where her friend Stephanie Smith was also celebrating the grand opening of her art studio. I had no intention of buying anything but enjoyed browsing all the wonderful art work. One piece I found myself holding and felt the urge to get it, but it didn’t have any “purple” (my favorite color) in it, and I didn’t want to just have an impulse buy so I decided to put it down and enjoy the evening and see how I felt about it later. But every time I went to put it back, I kept “feeling” resistance and the thought “but what if someone else bought it” kept going through my mind. So I would hold it for awhile and then return to it’s spot and try to put it down again, this kept happening over and over – I was really determined to NOT just purchase an impulse buy. After awhile Joan noticed that the painting must be “stuck to my hand” since it seemed I couldn’t put it down. We both chuckled about it, and after awhile I just gave in and realized the painting was coming home with me. Once it was paid for and safely mine, I could put the painting down and free my hands to drum for awhile and browse the other artists in the building.

The painting “Manifest the Life You Desire” is now hanging in my bedroom in a spot where I will see it first thing every morning. What a wonderful reminder to start each day with. I think it is part of the gentle nudging the Universe has been doing to make sure I keep moving along my path as a healer, growing, expanding, learning, and teaching.

Here is a collection of photos of Stephanie’s Art:

MyDrum 1 Chosen by A Healing Drum

No two wands are ever the same. The wand chooses the wizard…it’s not always clear why.  These connections are complex. The wand learns from the wizard; and than the wizard learns from the wand.”   ~Ollivander (from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Ollivander’s Shopkeeper at Universal Studies).

This past Friday, I felt a little like Harry Potter in Ollivaner’s wand shop, as I held and played several wonderful drums until one chose me.  My healing drum (pictured above) is 18″ Pine and Elk. It is being painted with the design I brought with me so it will be a couple weeks before I can bring it home.  I aslo bought a stand for it so will have the option to play it hands-free.  My dear friend, Joan Bright (Resounding Reiki) came along and introduced me to her frined Cat Corley (Reiki Drumbeat) who makes these amazing healing drums.  Afterwards Joan and I went to lunch and spent the afternoon talking and talking, until it was to go to the Banana Factory for a big gallery event where her friend Stephanie Smith just opened her studio about a week ago.  It was an awesome fun filled day.  I’ll be posting about the art gallery and the art piece that also “chose me” tomorrow.

There were many drums to chose from.  I tried almost every single drum there, but kept coming back to the drum pictured above.  I had my pendulum with me and tried it over several others that I was drawn to because of how they looked or what I thought my preference was for a particular wood,  but the only drum in the room that the pendulum spun over was this one.  I don’t base decisions solely on the pendulum, but will sometimes use it to help break a tie or to confirm my intuition, especially in situations like this where there are so many choices and so much wonderful energy that all the options can be a bit distracting.

Here is a sampling of all the wonderful drums

DrumCollection Chosen by A Healing Drum

Symbology of the drum materials:
Pine: Drives away all harm, both to the home and family and especially to newborn infants.  Symbolizes immortality and represents earth.  Used for purification, health, fortune, fertility, and prosperity.   An evergreen, it’s old name was “the sweetest of woods.” External symbol of strength, life, rejuventation, and immortality. It is one of the few trees that are androgynous. It was also worshiped by the ancients as a symbol of fire because of its resemblance to a spiral of flame. It is regarded as a very soothing tree to be near.

Elk Hide gives a deeper resonance than Deer Hide. Elk is associated with stamina and endurance, it is also a powerful healing medicine for survivors of abuse and addiction.

Tarot Reading with Gaian Tarot Tarot Reading with Gaian Tarot

For me, autumn is the season when inspiration and spiritual imagery seems to flow in abundance, but this year it has been a flood (or tidal wave) of images, ideas, energy, and vision.  When I attended the Be Thankful Circle of Trees Retreat in early Nov. the intent that I put forth in sacred space (while drumming, dancing, firewalking, arrow breaking, etc.), was to expand and be more open to fulfilling my path as a healer, and I  think the Universe was listening.

I decided to do a three card reading using the Gaian Tarot Tarot Reading with Gaian Tarot to ask for insights for the path that appears to be unfolding and that the Universe is “gently” *cough* nudging me to follow. (And by “gently” I mean tapping with a two by four until I pay attention.)  The reading:

The Tree – letting go -The ego’s notion of being in control is mostly an illusion.  You have the opportunity to release attachments and surrender to the flow. You are no longer in charge of your life. It isn’t a time to resist, for everything is out of your control. Give it up. Your world may feel like it’s been turned upside down. You can fight this reversal — you can go into it kicking and screaming — or you can surrender with grace and take it as an opportunity to see your life from a different perspective.

The Magician – spirit made manifest – The magician is a ritual drummer.  You have the power to manifest your desires.  Charisma and personal energy radiate from you.  It is your gift to be able to enter sacred space and bring spiritual energy into the world of matter. Remember that when you align yourself with the heartbeat of the earth, you have the power to bring forth healing for the planet and all her creatures.

The Teacher – learning and teaching – Resolution comes with a spiritual teacher who will soon appear in your life, or you may be ready to become a teacher to others. The natural world around you has some of the most profound spiritual teachings you will ever encounter. The Teacher calls you to become intimately acquainted with the natural world in the place where you live, as part of your spiritual practice.

A simple three card reading, but the message is far from simple.

The Tree: Trees have become a very important symbol for me.  Over the past two years there has been a series of “unrelated” experiences regarding trees (full body breath tree connection vision; vision of a gift from a tree, and discovering the “Circle of Trees retreats”)  that when viewed as a whole are “connected.” Going back even further, in my childhood I spent many long hours quietly sitting on a rock in a hidden alcove of trees along the Delaware River where I grew up.  I have always felt a love for trees, but it is only in the past couple of years that I have been able “physically feel” the connection, wisdom, strength, and web of energy that flows between the earth, sky, trees and all living creatures. When I allow myself to sink into that “web of energy” and consciously be a part of it there is a calmness and peace, and the message from the card The Tree “to surrender to the flow” resonates with that feeling and is a gentle reminder to trust that feeling and be open to it even more.

The Magician – This card confirmed for me that it is time to “manifest” what it is I desire to do with my life, which is to be a healer.  I have been a healer most of my life, but privately and only among family and friends, but I know it is time to be more open to what other possibilities may unfold.  At the Circle of Trees retreat during the drumming circles I danced and did qi gong into the wee hours of the morning, raising healing energy for Mother Earth and all those in need.  The vibration of the drumming (the heartbeat of the earth) was a powerful combination with the healing energy of qi gong.  I was inspired to learn more about drumming and bought a healing drum yesterday.   It is interesting that “the heartbeat” and “healing” were  part of the message.

The Teacher – I have always loved crystals and stones, but recently the call of the stones has increased in volume and many more have come into my life and I know they have much to teach me.  Some of these stones are for others and making their way to their new homes through me, but some I know are meant to stay with me.  I feel very fortunate to have their wisdom and energy in my life.  I also want to create a permanent healing space in my backyard (using stones from around the world).  In dreams and meditations I have also been inspired to teach more workshops and lead more circles (I have two scheduled for the spring Circle of Trees Retreat in April 2012- Awakening the Goddess Within and a Healing Circle).  Over 25 years ago I used to be a guest lecturer at various college campuses on the topic of Wicca, and I also facilitated a Wiccan circle for many years.  But stepping into the role of “teacher” is a little out of my comfort zone.  However, we are all teachers (and healers) and we learn from each other.  I know that being more open to doing healing work also means opportunites for teaching will open up as well, and along the way I have and will continue to meet wonderful teachers.

I will post photos of my healing drum tomorrow.  I had so much fun picking it out and got to experience many lovely drums.  My drum is being painted with the design I asked for so I have to wait a couple of weeks to bring it home.

my4tattoos2 Magical Tattoos

I got my first tattoos to celebrate my 50th birthday – the pentacle on my ankle and the dragon heart area (front of the chest). The following year I got the triquetta on the other ankle, and the year after that the yin-yang on the back of the neck (the rose in the center represents my middle name and also my “pen name”). The tattoo artist designed the yin-yang especially for me, he said he had never done a rose that small before. The photos don’t do them justice. I will eventually get two more tattoo – one on the inside of each wrist. These will be small and simple designs (because that is a very tender area to get a tattoo in) – the triple moon and a few stars (in purple of course).

The symbology for the tattoos is based on a simple ritual poem I wrote many, many years ago.

My feet rest upon the earth (two ankle tatoos),
My spirit soars among the stars, (arms raised with two moon tattos on wrist),
My heart resides between. (dragon and yin-yang)
Healing, powerful, loving I am.
So mote it be.

It took a long time to decide whether I wanted tattoos, but when I did I knew they would have to be meaningful and symbolic to my spiritual path and to be an expression of the sacredness of the divine residing in the phsyical body.

Do you have tattoos? What designs are they and what meaning do they have for you? If you have photos of your tattoos, feel free to leave a link and I’ll pop over to take a look.

Thanksgiving2007 1 300x225 A Wonderful Family Thanksgiving

13 photos from my favorite Thanksgiving family get together, November 2007.  We rented a house on the beach with two 3-bedroom apartments, so we had plenty of room to invite the whole family down to spend a couple of nights and two kitchens to cook in.

The turkey, the beach, and the full moon = a perfect vacation! And one of the most awesome Thanksgiving get togethers we have ever had, with lots of wonderful memories for everyone in our family.

The house we rented was right on the ocean, we arrived on Wed. and stayed through to Sunday, it has a big apartment on the second floor (where we stayed with a deck facing the ocean), and a big apartment on the first floor with a big porch facing the ocean (where most of the family stayed). My family joined us for two nights and we enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing, awesome Thanksgiving together. My hubby is a great cook and the turkey came out perfect (and everything else too). We did a lot of prep work at home first, so the morning of Thanksgiving we bascially just had to put a few things together put the turkey in the oven (and a ham in the other oven downstairs) and enjoy our time together with the family and watch the kids playing on the beach. Dinner time we all helped setting the table and setting out the awesome feast, shared our thoughts on what we were thankful for, enjoyed each other’s company and the spectacular ocean view as we leisurely ate dinner. The weather for the whole weekend was awesome; who would have believed that in Nov. we could be running around the beach with just a light jacket on here in New Jersey. At night the full moon was shining over the water and created a magical, relaxing sight. Sunrises were equally beautiful and inspiring.

The kids got to play on the beach, collect shells, do arts and crafts (I had brought some kits for them), make xmas candy (my sister brought an easy kit for them). Friday my sisters and I got to visit a local Christmas shop and oooh and ahhhh over all the awesome decorations. Some of us went for a nice walk through part of the bird sanctuary along the beach that is a short distance down the road from the beach house.

Thanksgiving2007 2 A Wonderful Family Thanksgiving

The weather was so nice that the kids could play on the beach and we sat on the porch watching the waves while the turkey was roasting. The view on the beach was awesome and the full moon at night added just the perfect magical touch.

Thanksgiving2007 3 A Wonderful Family Thanksgiving

I really hope that we can rent the beach house again for a future Thanksgiving.  It was one of the most relaxing, no drama, Thanksgiving holidays we have ever had when the whole family was together.

Thanksgiving2007 4 300x225 A Wonderful Family Thanksgiving

This year it will be just the three of us today for a small Thanksgiving Feast. We will be getting some work done around the house – there is lot to organize and rearrange in the tv room. We got new furniture for that room yesterday so I want to start uncluttering the room and deep cleaning (including six bookshelves in desperate need of sorting and dusting) We will be getting together with the family on Saturday over at my sister’s house to celebrate with the extended family – my mom, my sister and her husband and 2 kids, and my brother (who is sick with the flu but hopefully will be feeling better by Saturday) and his son. My other sister isn’t speaking to her or avoiding every one else in the family (long story and not worth telling). Since she is living right across the street we will pop in for a quick visit to drop off some homemade turkey soup that Teacherman plans on making Friday with our leftovers. My other brother is in a nursing home in Arkansas, he is blind and lost both legs because of diabetes. I will be sending out his monthly care package (sugar-free treats and a cd of music) this weekend.  I’m looking forward to a peaceful four days off work enjoying time with my hubby and daughter, and a nice visit with the extended family.

What are your favorite Thanksgiving memories?  Wishing everyone a joyful, happy, and healthy Thanksgiving, Lady Rose
